Human remains found in Demopolis, death investigation underway

A death investigation is underway in Demopolis — after human remains are found at a local business.

The remains were found inside a storage unit at Alabama Portable Sheds — in Demopolis Gateway Plaza.

Chief Rex Flowers says the storage unit was brought to Demopolis from Birmingham about two weeks ago. But remains found inside of it — appear to be much older.

“Everything that we’ve gotten as far as the amount of time the body appeared to be deceased and everything, is before it ever came here,” Flowers said.

“Due to the stage of the decomposition the investigators believe that the person had been, has been deceased for several weeks to several months.”

The remains have been sent to the Department of Forensic Science for identification and determine the exact cause of death.
