Covington County teenager in stable condition, another in custody after shooting

The Covington County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a teenager was shot Sunday morning.

According to Sheriff Blake Turman, the shooting happened just after midnight Sunday at Hazelet Bridge in Red Level, which on the north end of Covington County.

Turman says his office received reports of shots fired and a person shot. Deputies located a 16-year-old and took him to the Andalusia Hospital emergency room. The teen was listed in stable condition, but was taken to a hospital in Fort Walton, Florida for further treatment.

Deputies located a car fitting the description traveling towards the scene. A man and two teenagers were in the car. One of the teenagers was described by witnesses as the shooter. He was arrested and taken to the Covington County jail. The suspect is from McKenzie.

Guns and illegal drugs were also found.

“I commend our officers for having the ability to split up and go in several direction. Not only was the shooter secured but the victim was escorted to safety. The team work of all involved is n the investigation was necessary to get this matter to next control without delay,” says Sheriff Turman.

So far, no names have been released because both the victim and suspect are juveniles.
