CITY ELECTIONS: Several local mayors defeated in runoffs

Several local mayors have gone down in defeat in runoff races.

In our area, the mayors of Alexander City, Greenville, Opp and Tuskegee have lost their re-election bids.

In Alexander City, Mayor Woody Baird lost to Mike Densmore.

In Greenville, Mayor Dexter McLendon lost to Jae’Ques Brown.

In Opp, Mayor Becky Bracke lost to Chance McCurley.

And in Tuskegee, Mayor Tony Haygood lost to Frank “Chris” Lee.

Besides those races, Selma Mayor James Perkins, Jr., lost when voters first went to the polls last month. Two challengers, Johnny Moss III and Aaron Roper, were in a runoff to find out who will replace him. Moss was the winner.

There were some local mayors who won their runoffs. They include Linden Mayor Gwendolyn Rogers, Luverne Mayor Ed Beasley, Marion Mayor Dexter Hinton and Uniontown Mayor Ron Miller.

In the open seat for Union Springs mayor, Ron “Llep” Smith appears to have beaten Brian Agnew by a handful of votes.
