Kershaw Branch YMCA celebrates reopening

The Kershaw Branch YMCA in Montgomery is celebrating its reopening after undergoing more than $1 million in renovations.

Greater Montgomery Area YMCA President and CEO AJ Hernandez says the project is a beacon of hope for those living in West Montgomery, not just through brick and mortar but also through health and harmony for those who use it.

The YMCA branch is located on West Fairview Avenue.

The updates include expanded wellness spaces, refreshed facilities and new resources designed to better serve families in the Carver neighborhood around the YMCA and throughout the area.

“This Kershaw family YMCA renovation has been over a year now,” Hernandez said.  “The YMCA is committed to be able to impact all areas of our community, all the people in our community, and so this project is a testament to that — it’s a testament to seeing parts of our community that need to be revitalized and the Y is committed to doing that.”

Montgomery County Commissioner Carmen Moore-Zeigler says she will sponsor 80 children and 100 senior citizens to make sure they have memberships at the Kershaw YMCA.
