ACTION 8 UPDATE: New details on Dexter Avenue homicide

ACTION 8 UPDATE: We have learned new details about a homicide that happened on Dexter Avenue downtown.

Police have arrested 51-year-old Barry Andre Freeman and charged him with capital murder.

The killing happened just before 5AM in the 100 block of Dexter Avenue, about a block from the Court Square Fountain. Police found a man who was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to court records obtained by Action 8 News, Freeman is accused of hitting the victim in the throat with his fist. Records say Freeman sexually assaulted the victim while he was unconscious, and the hit caused the man’s death.

Police have not released the victim’s name.

Freeman was taken into custody on Sunday and booked into the Montgomery County Detention Facility.
