Montgomery Lions Club Chili Cookoff Brings Heat and Heart to Riverwalk Stadium

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) — With cooler temperatures settling in, hundreds of people gathered at Riverwalk Stadium over the weekend for the Montgomery Lions Club’s annual Chili Cookoff.

The event, which began in 2004, featured dozens of amateur and restaurant chefs competing in several categories, from traditional meat chili to vegetarian and wild game varieties. Attendees sampled the dishes and voted for their favorites, all while raising money for local charities supported by the Lions Club.

Acme Brick took home top honors in the amateur division, winning both the overall best chili and best amateur meat categories. Vintage Year was named the overall best restaurant chili winner, while Montgomery Whitewater claimed the People’s Choice Award.

The Lions Club has hosted the cookoff for more than 20 years, with proceeds benefiting local nonprofits across the Montgomery area.
