Montgomery’s Capri Theatre announces leadership changes
Montgomery’s historic Capri Theatre has announced leadership changes with the upcoming departure of longtime director Martin McCaffery.
The Capri Community Film Society, the non-profit organization which operates Capri Theatre has announced the creation of two new positions to take over the duties of McCaffery, who will step down at the end of the year.
The new positions at the Capri will be an organization director and a theatre director, who will be in charge of the non-profit organization and the actual theatre, respectively.
The organization director will be Adrian Lee Bush. Bush brings a background in performing arts, playwriting and nonprofit leadership. Most recently, she served as Director of 50 PLUS & Sacred Arts Ministries at First United Methodist Church in Montgomery, where she developed arts programming. Bush is pursuing an MFA in Playwriting from Hollins University.
The theatre director will be Richard Sherman, who has worked as the night manager of the Capri Theatre since 2015. Sherman brings more than ten years of experience and intimate knowledge of the Capri and its history. He is a Montgomery native and long time resident of Old Cloverdale.
In addition, Eve Harmon, who has worked as the assistant to the director since 2009, will be promoted to Marketing and Membership.
Anton Jackson, current president of the Capri Theatre’s Board of Directors said, “I’m thrilled to welcome Adrian and Richard into their new leadership roles. I’m confident their vision and dedication will carry the Capri’s theater and community into a bright new chapter.”
Richard and Adrian will assume their new roles in November. This will give them time with Director McCaffery to make sure the transition of the new leadership will be as smooth as possible.
“I am pleased we were able to find two highly qualified people to assume and expand on my duties at the theatre,” McCaffery said. “The movie industry is going through tumultuous changes, and I am convinced the new team will have the trust and support of the Capri membership. Adrian and Richard are ready to take on the challenge.”
The Capri Theatre opened as the Clover in 1941. In 1983, the Capri Community Film Society, Inc. took over operation of the theatre.
Martin McCaffery has been the director since November 1985.
