With Christmas next week, that means this is the last week of the semester for students across the state. One of those schools is the new Pike Road School.
So how did the schools fair in their first semester?
When Pike Road school started back in August of this year, school officials were expecting over 800 students, but over 1100 students came for the first day which led to overcrowded this in some areas. But as the months went along the school decided to be creative and utilize the space as best as possible.
“We put furniture in the hallways and children as independent learners can come out. Of course teachers will come out and monitor them, but our children are so engrossed in what they’re doing and how to engage in their work, so it’s amazing what they do.” Said Pike Road School Superintendent Dr. Suzanne Freeman.
Another issue for the school was the amount of heavy traffic with parents picking up their students from school.
School officials say they’ve made several changes to help parents get in and out quicker to pick up their children.
