Military and community service of veterans honored in Selma

From the West Alabama Newsroom–

People in Selma and Dallas County honor and celebrate veterans for their military service and their service to the community.

Waka Selmavetsday1111 PkgPeople bundled up tight. And some even brought their own heaters to the event because they didn’t want to miss the opportunity to show their appreciation to veterans for their service.

“I’ve seen ’em come out in the rain, in the cold, it really doesn’t matter. The folks really show up here,” said Mark Boswell with American Legion Post 20.

Air Force veteran Jim Lawrence of Prattville was the keynote speaker at the ceremony. He shared several stories about veterans who served in the military with honor — then returned home and continued to serve.

“They run for office or they become coaches or they teach school. They do a wide variety of things. Ninety nine out of 100 of them are going to continue to contribute to their community.

The annual Veterans Day ceremony is sponsored by American Legion Post 20.
