New leadership chosen at Montgomery County school board meeting
Members of the Montgomery County school board have chosen new leadership to help guide the board into the future.
At a meeting yesterday, members voted board member Pamela Portis as president. That decision was unanimous.
As for vice president, board member Erika Watkins-Smith won the position in a 4–2 vote over board member Pamela Cloud.
“Well, it’s humbling. It is to have the to have the confidence of my entire board and they know what they’re doing. They’ve been educators, they know this district. They know the climate and the culture of their communities that they know the children and what we need,” Portis told Action 8 News.
“You always want someone that can keep the momentum. That was the gist of everything who can keep the momentum going and miss Portis has shown that she is very focused, very driven, very detail oriented, and that’s something that’s going to help as we continue to move in a positive direction,” Watkins-Smith said.
