Area firefighters come together for multi-agency training in Pike Road

If you were out and about in the Town of Pike Road this morning, you might have noticed what looked like an emergency situation unfolding.

That’s because several area fire departments came together for a multi-agency firefighter training.

The training was put on by the North American Equipment Company.

Monday’s training focused on heavy duty extrication, specifically involving a car and a school bus.

Fire officials say training like this is important if and when an occasion should occur.

“This is just building on the stabilization techniques that they’ve known already and adding one a new tool in these new struts that we have about how to use them,” said Chief Matt Missildine with the Pike Road Fire Department.

Officials also say not only does it prepare them for the situation, it allows area firefighters to come together during the time of need.

“Any time we can get together and do some training, especially on these big heavy vehicles and so forth, like that is really good that we can do a collaborative effort because if something bad happens we’re gonna have to work together,” said Capt. Chad Fowler with Montgomery Fire/Rescue.

The training continues through Wednesday.
