Prattville student named Auburn winner in statewide reading contest

A student in Prattville has been chosen as one of the winners in a statewide reading contest.

The Alabama Education Association named Toxey Dorsett as the Auburn winner of the 2025 AEA Be A Champion and Read Contest.

Dorsett was announced as the winner at a special assembly Tuesday – that included a visit from Aubie – at Prattville Primary School.

This year marks the 12th year for the state’s largest and only statewide reading contest. To date, over a half million students for every school district in Alabama has participated.

Each year, K-6 students are challenged to read age-appropriate books to qualify for the grand prize, which is tickets to the Iron Bowl.

Dorsett will receive tickets for him and two guests. He will also participate in pregame activities, including a visit to the sidelines to meet the mascots and cheerleaders.
