The City of Montgomery has donated $100,000 to the Heart of Alabama Food Bank.

Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed presented the check to CEO Michael Coleman during a press conference Tuesday.

The donation, which equates to approximately 500,000 meals, will help the food bank continue its mission of serving the most vulnerable members of the 35 counties in their coverage area.

As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, Mayor Steven Reed called on residents to stand with neighbors facing economic hardship – particularly those impacted by the ongoing federal government shutdown and reductions in SNAP benefits.

City officials say 53,000 people in Montgomery County and nearly 4,000 federal employees in the city are experiencing heightened food insecurity.
