Man charged with attacking his 95-year-old mother in Lee County
A man has been arrested in Lee County on charges of attacking his 95-year-old mother.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office says 70-year-old John Earl Black of Phenix City is charged with second-degree assault-elderly abuse. He is being held on a $30,000 bond.
Investigators say on Sunday, November 23, a man told a deputy who was on patrol that his brother assaulted their mother. Investigators say the mother was in the car, with two black eyes and bandages on her arms and legs. They say the woman told them that her other son had struck her and it wasn’t the first time it had happened.
Deputies say the attack happened at her home on Lee County Road 498.
Today, deputies made the arrest. They say they confirmed that Black had been arrested on the same charge in April of 2022. They say court documents show that he pleaded guilty to the charge in January of this year and received two years of probation.
