Opelika man charged with murder in Lee County

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office says an Opelika man has been arrested on a murder charge.

The sheriff’s office says 44-year-old David Preston is charged with killing 43-year-old Marcus Strickland of Opelika.

Investigators say just after 1AM today, they received a 911 call about a possible shooting at a home in the 100 block of Lee County Road 41 in the Beauregard community. They found Strickland dead inside the home.

The sheriff’s office says the Lee County SWAT team helped arrest Preston at a home in the 3900 block of Lee County Road 177 in Cusseta.

It is believed that the two men are acquaintances and are not related.

Preston is being held in the Lee County Detention Center without bond.
