Millbrook Chamber of Commerce honors Heart of Alabama Food Bank
The Millbrook Area of Chamber of Commerce has named the Heart of Alabama Food Bank as its nonprofit of the year.
The announcement was made at the chamber’s annual luncheon yesterday.
There were 31 applicants which applied for the award. The Heart of Alabama Food Bank serves 35 counties with the assistance of other food banks and pantries that are connected with it.
“I think that the committee felt like this year, that in the climate that we’re in, that Heart of Alabama Food Bank probably needed it the most most. We have two food pantries in this county alone that they also feed to,” Brenda Dennis, the president and CEO of the Millbrook Area Chamber of Commerce told Action 8 News.
“It really the signifies the hard work that our staff does every day, and it’s really nice sometimes to get recognized for this work, but when we get out of the giving season and January, February, March, rolls around and there’s not the recognition, but the staff comes to work every single day motivated to continue to help lift up the most vulnerable people in our community,” Heart of Alabama Food Bank CEO Michael Coleman said.
In the spirit of giving, the Millbrook Area Chamber of Commerce collected donations on the day of the luncheon to support the food bank.
