Dallas Co. High School hosts VEX Robotics competition
From the West Alabama Newsroom–
Dallas County High School hosted it’s very first VEX Robotics Competition today on the campus.
Student teams battled it out for a chance to move on and compete in the state robotics competition at Auburn University.
Teams designed — built — and programmed their very own working robots for the competition.
Organizers say robotics develops teamwork and problem solving skills.
“This is part of the real world experience nowadays because most of our big corporations use robots,” said DCHS Robotics teacher Stacey Buchanan.
“In today’s world especially, the coding thing, almost any career you go into, you gotta know how to code,” said UWA Black Belt STEM Institute Director Dr. Chet Nicklas.
“People may think you’re nerds doing this but it’s not,” said Robotics student Janiseia Hasberry.
“And you get like, building experience, like some people weld while doing it. Like, you get a lot of experience with mechanical things.”
A dozen teams made up of about 50 students participated in the competition.
