Montgomery restaurant owner speaks at city council in gladiator helmet

The owner of a popular pizza restaurant in Montgomery has appeared before city council to answer questions about tax payments while wearing a gladiator helmet.

Cedric Sanders owns the Can a Brotha Get a Slice pizza restaurant on South Decatur Street.

He put on the gladiator helmet right before he spoke at the Montgomery City Council meeting last night.

Sanders was called before the council because of unpaid sales taxes. Representatives from the city said they had arranged a payment plan with Sanders, but say he has not been making payments.

Sanders was shot during an altercation at his restaurant in September of 2024. The state closed his restaurant in November of 2025 saying he had not paid taxes.

The council told Sanders he must start paying the unpaid taxes in the next two weeks or his business license would be revoked.
