8 ON YOUR SIDE CONSUMER ALERT: Mini-refrigerators recalled due to fire risk

8 ON YOUR SIDE CONSUMER ALERT: More than 300,000 mini-refrigerators are being recalled due to a risk that they could catch fire.

The recall is for a 6-can mini-fridge model sold by Curtis International using the Frigidaire brand name.  These models were sold exclusively at Target.

The model number is EFMIS121.

The internal electrical components can short-circuit, creating a fire hazard. There have already been six reports of fires, with property damage.

If you have one of these fridges, you should stop using it and register for a refund at Curtis International’s site.

This recall is an expansion of an earlier recall involving more than 600,000 mini-fridges, for the same fire risk.
