Rain Likely Over The Weekend
A frontal boundary has moved into the region and it will stall over South Alabama for a few days. This will help keep us in a mainly cloudy and rainy weather pattern Friday into the weekend. A low pressure system will develop west of us and pass through Central Alabama over the weekend. We expect more rain and even a few t-storms to move through the area. Temps are trending warmer and that’s keeping the wintry precipitation threat farther to our north. If we were to see any wintry precipitation, it would come late Sunday evening as the cold air catches up the back edge of the rain. A brief change over to wintry mix can’t be ruled out in East Alabama.
In the meantime, we’re expecting a cloudy sky with periods of light rain to continue moving through the area tonight. Temps will only drop into the 40s for lows overnight. A mainly cloudy and damp weather pattern is likely Friday through Sunday. There will be periods of rain passing through the state. Temps climb into the 50s and lower 60s for highs and lows in the 40s. This is a big change from what we were facing earlier in the week. Model data continues to show warmer air over us and that keeps us out of the wintry precipitation threat through Sunday afternoon. North Alabama is still going to be impacted by a wintry mix and travel up that way will be hazardous over the weekend.
Once we’re past the weekend rains, sunny and dry conditions settle back over us early next week. The outlook is for very cold air to settle over us. Temps will only manage the upper 30s to lower 40s for highs and lows in the upper teens to lower 20s through Tuesday.
