WATCH: Mia Baumgartner wins 2026 Distinguished Young Woman of Alabama
Alabama has a new Distinguished Young Woman.
Mia Baumgartner, the Distinguished Young Woman from Covington County, was named the 2026 Distinguished Young Woman of Alabama Saturday night at Frazer Church.
Baumgartner was one of 42 contestants from around the state to compete for the title this year.
As the winner, Baumgartner took home a $6,000 scholarship.
In addition, she took home preliminary awards in talent, self expression, fitness and community involvement.
Baumgartner became the first representative from Covington County to win in 40 years.
“When my name was announce last night, it felt like a fever dream honestly,” said Baumgartner. “It’s so rewarding and it’s such an honor I’m really excited to work this year. I think the biggest piece of advice is making sure that every young girl knows that no matter where you come from that, you have your place to be here, and so coming from a really small county, I did not think that this was possible. Being able to represent not just my county, but an entire state is probably the greatest honor that I’ve ever been given before, and it is a lot of pressure, but I’m really excited.”
Mia Baumgartner is currently a senior at Andalusia High School. She tells Action 8 News that she plans to double major in dance and communications at the University of Alabama.
Baumgartner will now go on to represent Alabama in the national competition to be held in Mobile in June.
