Trojans prep for 2026 campaign
In his fourth season at Troy, Head Coach Eric Newell is optimistic heading into the 2026 season despite being 9th in the Sun Belt Preseason Poll. This year’s roster returns some keys pieces from last year’s production but, also welcomes new addition from high school and the transfer portal.
“We are about a 60% clip new players when you take our freshmen and our transfers. But, we are so thankful to the loyalty to the returners that stayed with us,” says Newell.
One of those returners is Wetumpka grad and former Gatorade Player of the Year, Mya Holt.
Holt playing a big part in the Trojans success during the fall where they went undefeated. Troy’s game against Georgia Tech was where Holt truly shined, Newell calling Holt a “Georgia Tech Nemesis.”
“Her leadership will continue to increase. Her productivity will continue. We’re just looking for bigger and better things for Mya. Really settled in as our number two pitcher last year, we have a little bit more depth in the circle this year but, we expect big things out of her,” explains Newell.
“Just seeing what we did during the fall, and especially with our performance against Georgia Tech, I feel like we can do a lot with what we saw from that performance and I think we can go really far,” says Holt.
The Trojans open the season at home with the Trojan Classic. Opening Day set for Friday, February 6th with a double header. First, Troy will face Middle Tennessee at 2:30, then the University of Tennessee- Chattanooga at 5:00.
