AUM hosts American College Theatre Festival
More than 600 students from colleges across the southeast are in Montgomery for the Region IV American College Theatre Festival. The weeklong event is co-hosted by Auburn University at Montgomery and the Alabama Shakespeare Festival.
The festival features live performances, hands-on workshops, and professional development sessions led by working theatre professionals. Students will compete for national recognition while gaining real world feedback, networking opportunities, and career focused experience.
“I think there’s not anything like the American College Theatre Festival,” stated Belinda Boyd who is the Co-Chair of Region IV American College Theatre.” Because it’s both a learning experience for the students but it’s also an opportunity for them to spread their wings. It’s a beautiful sort of arts incubator for students.”
“It’s really exciting to get to meet new people, make new connections, and then also learn something about not only yourself but just the theatre world around you by watching the other productions and going ‘Oh, that’s a cool idea.’ Or maybe people learn from you and you discover some new things about yourself through this process,” stated AUM student and festival attendee Michael Pritchard.
One of the performances the students will see is AUM’s fall 2026 theatre production of ‘The Birdz.’
