Saint James holds dedication for student who passed in 2024
The Saint James community came together Saturday to honor a student who passed away 2 years ago.
Carter Carroll was a senior and baseball player at St. James when he passed in a tragic hunting accident in January of 2024. The school hosted a ceremony for him to dedicate the newly renovated batting facility to him. The facility is now named the “Carter Adair Carroll Batting Facility.”
Hundreds showed up to remember their friend, classmate, and teammate. A few people spoke about their favorite memories of Carter and what he meant to them.
Head of School, Dr. Larry McLemore, talked about why the memorial is so special to their community.
“Baseball was central to Carter’s life. He loved baseball, and you saw his stamp in the baseball program in the way he treated other people, in the way he built up others around him, and in the way he was a leader by example. So, to be able to dedicate something to him that memorializes that, certainly with the facility itself, but more with a plaque that people will walk by everyday to remember what he was about, who he was, and why he did what he did. That is really special to us,” said Head of School at Saint James, Dr. Larry McLemore.
The school has also started a scholarship for future graduates to honor Carter’s memory.
