Pay it Forward Honoree: Musette Hankins of Deatsville
We are spotlighting unsung heroes in our community who are making a difference.
Musette Hankins of Deatsville is our Vance Law Firms Pay It Forward honoree this week.
Hankins serves as an advocate for the River Region’s special needs community. She does a lot to make sure their voices are heard, serving as the founder of Angels Among Us.
The non profit provides free cheer programs, sensory friendly events, and outreach for those with special needs and their families.
“I’m a special needs mom myself, so I know what its like to wake up and to want to have friends and to go out and do something. And I don’t have anyone to do it. Now we’re building a community so we can do that,” says Musette Hankins.
We’re told Musette gives, serves, and pours her whole soul into making lives better for others — especially those who feel forgotten. She holds a special needs beauty pageant, visits people in the hospital, volunteers in the community and organizes donation drives..
“She started because her daughter wanted to do something like her sister is doing, like cheerleading. And she couldnt because shes special needs. So this gives her the opportunity to cheer like everybody else does,” says Katharine Hankins, who nominated Musette for PIF.
Those close to her say she is an angel walking among us, having helped so many families without seeking any recognition.
“She does a lot for the community. She goes 24/7, non-stop,” says Katharine
So that’s why Stewart Vance with the Vance Law Firm is recognizing her.
She has a lot on her plate — but she says she does it all because everyone deserves love and a place to belong.
“I just wanted something that our babies can be a part of without having to worry about if they’re missing a game, if they’ll be put off the team, cause our babies go through a lot and I just wanted something just for them,” says Musette.
And as for her $333, she says she plans to use it to help even more families wth special needs feel that sense of community.
“I’m gonna sew back in to the organization, as well.”
Thank you Musette for all you do to pay it forward!
