Showers Friday, some storms Saturday, winter cold returns Sunday
Friday morning was mainly cloudy with rain at times, with temperatures surging into the mid and upper 70s in some locations around midday. However, some sunshine returned Friday afternoon. Scattered showers, perhaps occasional thunder remain possible during the afternoon in the vicinity of a stalling front across central Alabama. Isolated to widely scattered showers remain possible Friday night, with a mostly cloudy sky and low temperatures in the 60s otherwise.
Scattered showers and some storms re-develop along the stalled front Saturday morning. The front picks up forward speed by the afternoon, sending showers and storms south. A few storms may become strong to severe, mainly south of highway 80 and Interstate 85. Damaging straight-line wind gusts look like the main hazard.
The front pushes through and south of our area late Saturday. That brings showers and storms to a close across central and south Alabama, and brings in colder air with brisk northwest winds. Temperatures fall into the 40s with a clearing sky Saturday night. Sunday looks mostly sunny, but colder and windy with high temperatures only in the 50s. Sunday night lows fall to near or below freezing, with lower wind chill values in the 20s possible.
