Painkillers Can Increase Irregular Heartbeat Risk

Researchers in the Netherlands say older adults who use painkillers, including aspirin and ibuprofen, could be at increased risk of developing an irregular heartbeat.  

A recent analysis of about 900 people with an irregular heartbeat found almost 600 used painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs .  

Researchers say more study is needed.  

Many physicians prescribe low dose aspirin to prevent heart attacks.
