A group of Holtville Middle Schoolers are named best in the State. They came up with an idea for an application that won Verizon Innovative App Challenge for Alabama.
The group of seven Holtville sixth graders already won their very own tablets and $5,000 for their school. Now they need your help to win even more.
Carter Brink, a sixth grader said, “It was really fun because I got to do it with all my friends and it was a challenge. It was really exciting to know that we were competing against everybody.”
Brooke Carrico, a sixth grader said, “to do this you have to know skills like how to edit things and do different types of technology so it really gave us a good benefit for our education.”
The group came up with an app to manage your money for the competition through Verizon, making sure to do a little research so they were coming up with something unique. Sam Woodfin said, “You put in your money and when you buy something or earn more money you keep track of it and there’s a goal tracker if you want to earn money to buy something or something.”
Cheyanne Barrett, Sixth Grade Math and Social Studies Teacher said, “I told them that this was their project I allowed them to do it and I would sponsor it. But I wanted it to be their creation. I didn’t want any part of it, I would help when I could but I wanted it to be theres.”
To vote for them, text MONEYAPP2 to 22-333 before the end of the month.
Right now they are in first place.
