Selma police investigating two shootings that left eight people injured

Selma police are investigating two separate shootings that left a total of eight people injured.

The first shooting happened at about 1:25AM yesterday in the 1200 block of Alabama Avenue, near the area where the Bridge Crossing Jubilee is being commemorated this weekend. Police say a fight broke out between a group of people and shots were fired.

Six people were shot and taken to the hospital for treatment.

So far, police say one person has been arrested and charged with assault. The suspect’s name hasn’t yet been released.

The second shooting happened after a fight broke out at the Jubilee Festival. Two people were shot. Police say the victims’ injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

An arrest hasn’t been made in that shooting.
