Tuskegee city employee killed in house fire
Tuskegee Mayor Chris Lee says the man killed in a house fire over the weekend was a city employee.
The fire happened Sunday at a home on Moton Circle.
Mayor Lee identified the victim as Absalom Graham. Lee says Graham served as a mechanic in the City Shop.
In addition to working with the city, Graham was a deacon at Greenwood Missionary Baptist Church in Tuskegee.
“In a community like Tuskegee, where so many of us are connected, a loss like this touches us all,” said Mayor Lee. “Mr. Graham’s life of service and left a lasting impression on those who had the privilege of knowing him. His presence will be deeply missed throughout our community. On behalf of the City of Tuskegee, I extend my deepest condolences to the Graham family, his church family at Greenwood Missionary Baptist Church, and all who knew and loved him. We will continue to keep his family lifted in our prayers during this incredibly difficult time.”
Mayor Lee said the Tuskegee City Council honored Graham during Tuesday’s meeting with the passage of a resolution honoring his contributions to the city.
The Alabama State Fire Marshal’s Office is working alongside the Tuskegee Fire Department and Tuskegee Police Department, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
