ACTION 8 UPDATE: Suspect arrested in shooting near stage at Bridge Crossing Jubilee in Selma
ACTION 8 UPDATE: Selma police have released the name of a suspect involved in one of the shootings that happened during this year’s Bridge Crossing Jubilee weekend.
Selma Police Chief Kenta Fulford says 18-year-old Ethan Brown of Selma has been arrested and charged with assault in the second degree.
“Shots were fired in the area of the stage on Water Avenue,” Fulford told Action 8 News. “Officers started heading towards that way. There was people running, trying to get to safety. We had two victims who were transported to the Vaughan ER with non-life-threatening injuries. They were treated and released. Officers were speaking to one of the victims, they made mention that a fight did occur and then shortly after the fight took place, there were shots being fired. And that’s when they realized that they had been struck by a bullet.”
Two people were injured in the shooting. Video from the scene showed the crowd running for cover when they heard the shots. The shooting happened during the Street and Music Festival, which was one of the Bridge Crossing Jubilee events.
Earlier that day, six other people were hurt in a shooting at around 1:30AM in the 1200 block of Alabama Avenue. That’s near the Bridge Crossing Jubilee site downtown, but no events were taking place at the time.
Fulford said five of the six have been released from the hospital.
