A Fort Deposit man has been charged in a drive-by shooting that happened in Butler County.

The Butler County Sheriff’s Office says Zachary Patrick Byrd has been charged with shooting into an unoccupied vehicle, a Class C felony, and harassing communications, a Class C misdemeanor.

The sheriff’s office says just after 10PM on Wednesday, March 11, deputies responded to a report of a drive-by shooting involving a vehicle on New Prospect Road in the Industry community. Deputies found a vehicle that had been struck multiple times by gunfire. The vehicle was unoccupied, and no injuries were reported.

Byrd was arrested and taken to the Butler County Jail.

Although the vehicle was unoccupied at the time of the shooting, Butler County Sheriff David Scruggs said, “This type of reckless and dangerous behavior will not be tolerated in Butler County. We are committed to holding those responsible accountable.”
