Less than two months away from the Alabama State Games

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – We are less than two months away from the 2026 Alabama State Games.

This year’s games will take run from June 12-14 in Birmingham and throughout Jefferson County.

The 43rd Opening Ceremony will take place inside Legacy Arena at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex.

This year’s sports lineup features bass fishing, mountain biking, billiard, kickball, track and field, softball and much more.

The Alabama State Games were created at the request of the United States Olympic Committee in 1982 and held their first competition in 1983 at Auburn University.

Since then, the Alabama State Games have grown to Alabama’s largest multi-sport event. Alabama has the second-oldest State Games program in the country.

Action 8’s Estee Morrison sat down with CEO and Executive Director Laura Creel Burt to learn more about this year’s event. You can watch that interview above.
