ACTION 8 UPDATE: Wetumpka man charged with murder in fatal boat crash

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – A Wetumpka man has been charged with murder after a boating accident on the Alabama River in Montgomery turned fatal.

ALEA spokesman Capt. Jeremy Burkett said 30-year-old William Alexander Marks Acreman has been charged with reckless murder and assault in the first degree. He is being held on a $90,000 bond.

The accident happened at around 7:20PM on Saturday, March 7, involving a 19-foot boat that hit the river bank near Northern Boulevard.

ALEA says three people were on board — Acreman, who was operating the boat, and two passengers, both from Nashville, Tennessee: 30-year-old Johnathan Barranger and 29-year-old Devon O’Donnell. Barranger died on March 24, according to ALEA.

Today, Acreman was booked into the Montgomery County Jail.
