Montgomery Whitewater receives $50,000 swiftwater rescue training grant

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – Swiftwater rescue training is coming to Montgomery Whitewater and it is all thanks to a new grant.

The Mid-South Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Council awarded the $50,000 to support the education program.

The program will train first responders and river guides on how to rescue themselves and others caught in dangerous water currents.

Officials say the training addresses a growing need in the state, which is evident by recent flooding throughout the Southeast.

The announcement Wednesday was phase two of the program, which will provide in-house training at the facility.
