Ashworth & Russo take home the 2026 Jimmy Hitchcock Award

The YMCA of Greater Montgomery hosted the 67th annual Jimmy Hitchcock Award banquet at Frazier Church. This year’s male and female recipients included Anna Russo from Montgomery Catholic and Robert Ashworth from Montgomery Academy.

The award is given out not only to student athletes who are competitive on the field and in the classroom, but also to those who are ambassadors for Christ. Both Russo and Ashworth exemplify all of those qualities.

Russo competing in flag football, soccer, track & field (indoor & outdoor,) basketball, volleyball, and competitive soccer. The multi sport athlete also gives 100% in the classroom with her 4.16 weighted GPA, and she is very involved in her church where she participated in retreats and service projects. Russo will attend the University of North Alabama to play flag football.

Ashworth is also a multi sport athlete competing in football, soccer, and basketball for the Eagles. In the classroom he is incredibly dedicated to helping his classmates by assisting in SAT tutoring. In addition to all of this, Ashworth also has another cause that is near to his heart and that is serving people who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. During his time at Montgomery Academy, Ashworth has partnered with the Respite for All Foundation to start “Kicking for a Cause,” where people donated funds based on his kicking while playing for the Eagles. Throughout this initiative, Ashworth was able to raise over $25,000. After graduation, he plans to attend Texas Christian University.
