Montgomery City Council to crack down on unsanctioned parties at rental properties
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – The Montgomery City Council is addressing the problem of unsanctioned parties at short-term rental properties.
The council voted last night to require renters to get a permit from the city in order to have parties and gatherings.
City Council President C.C. Calhoun says the city has a lot of airbnb locations and other rental properties that are being used for unsanctioned parties. He says the parties have caused traffic and noise issues as well as safety concerns in neighborhoods throughout Montgomery.
“People just come in from out of town, locals are buying and renting properties and just having all kinds of wild parties. So we’re trying to address that because we’re getting so many complaints from every community within this city,” Calhoun told Action 8 News.
Calhoun says the ordinance will go into effect once the mayor signs it and the council advertises what the permitting process will be.
