Montgomery swim school takes part in “World’s Largest Swimming Lesson” event
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – The Goldfish Swim School in Montgomery has taken part in the “World’s Largest Swimming Lesson.”
The worldwide event promotes water safety in teaching children how to keep their head above the waves.
At the swim school, children got free swimming lessons. Parents also took part in teaching their children how to swim with the trainer.
Babies as young as four months old even got the chance to take part.
“It’s very very important we start as young as four months, and yeah I don’t think that’s ever a time that is too soon to start,” Katlyn Medina of Goldfish Swim School told Action 8 News. “Drowning is actually the leading cause of death in children ages 1 to 4, and with formal swim lessons the risk is reduced down by 88%, so it makes a huge difference. We like to have fun here, but they are actually learning safety skills.”
