Man critically injured in Montgomery shooting
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – Montgomery police are investigating a shooting that critically injured a man.
Police responded to the 300 block of Centennial Circle in regards to a person shot.
Once they arrived, they found an adult male with life-threatening injuries from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The preliminary evidence indicates that this incident is domestic in nature.
While police have not released any suspects or their identity, Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed released a statement on Facebook, saying a 17-year-old girl allegedly shot her older brother.
His full statement reads:
“This weekend, our city endured two heartbreaking acts of violence that have left families shattered and our community grieving. Early Saturday morning, a 17‑year‑old girl allegedly shot her brother, leaving him with life‑threatening injuries. Later that evening, a man lost his life, and a woman was wounded, and is now receiving treatment for non–life‑threatening injuries.
In both cases, preliminary information shows these incidents began as personal, family disputes that escalated into something no family should ever have to endure.
We are praying for the full recovery of those injured and for comfort, strength, and peace for the families who are now facing unimaginable pain.
Every life lost, and every life put at risk, because of violence is one too many. We cannot and will not accept violence as the answer to our disagreements. Too many of these tragedies begin as conflicts that could and should have been handled differently. We have to find a better way to resolve our differences. Picking up a gun cannot be the solution.
We all share a responsibility to reject violence and seek peaceful solutions, at home, in our friendships, in our relationships, and in our daily interactions. This is not only a matter of public safety; it is a matter of human dignity and respect.
As your Mayor, I remain committed to strengthening both prevention and accountability. Our city’s future depends on the choices we make today. Let us choose compassion over conflict, dialogue over division, and peace over violence.
