Off-Duty Deputy Shoots Man at Huntsville Walmart

Police are investigating a shooting at a Huntsville Walmart store that involved an off-duty Morgan County sheriff’s deputy.

AL.com reports that the deputy was shopping at the store on South Memorial Parkway when he shot a man in the buttock Tuesday afternoon.

The deputy told police he recognized a suspect with active felony warrants, and confronted him about the matter before a shot was fired. Huntsville police said in a news release the deputy was trying to make an arrest inside the store.

Police said the gunshot wound was not life-threatening, and officers were guarding the wounded man at Huntsville Hospital.
