SELMA, Ala. (WAKA) – The family of Lula Hatcher, owner of nationally-honored Lannie’s Bar-B-Q Spot in Selma, has announced her death.
The family says Hatcher was the “heart and soul” behind the famous landmark restaurant. Her sons have mostly been running its day-to-day operations at the family establishment.
Hatcher was born and raised in Selma. “What started as a passion for cooking for family and friends grew into one of Selma’s most beloved restaurants,” the family announced on Facebook.
“She was a leader, a mentor, and a role model to many, always encouraging others to chase their dreams and never give up. Her faith in God, her love for her community, and her dedication to excellence will forever be remembered.”
The restaurant has announced it will be closed July 6-12. Funeral arrangements will be provided by Ashley’s JH Williams & Sons Funeral Home.
Last Year, USA Today named Lannie’s as one of its Restaurants of the Year. It was the only Alabama restaurant to make the list.
