Autauga County educators prepare for first day of school

PRATTVILLE, Ala. (WAKA) – Teachers and administrators in Autauga County Schools have come together for their Institute Day in preparation for the start of the school year.

They gathered at Prattville High School early this morning to hear from Autauga County School Supt. Lyman Woodfin.

Woodfin says they look forward to Institute Day every year because everyone gets to see each other and make sure the school year starts off right, not just for those in the schools, but for their community partners.

After the rally, there were training sessions, lunch and then everyone returned to their individual schools.

“We are here for one reason and one reason only,” Woodfin told Action 8 News. “That’s to give the kids the best opportunity for education and just rallying around that. That’s what makes Autauga County Schools special is our people really, believe it, our data backs it up and again, I am really, really proud of our teachers and everybody working together and all our support groups. We’ve got a great thing in Autauga County.”

Autauga County Schools has 14 campuses. The first day for students in the 2026-2027 school year is Tuesday, August 11.
