U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville speaks to Montgomery Regional Chamber of Commerce

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Alabama) was the guest speaker at the Montgomery Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Washington Brief event.

This morning, Tuberville provided an update about what’s been going on this year in Washington and what the U.S. Senate hopes to accomplish during the remainder of the year.

He says if Congress is spending any money, he wants to make sure that it goes to the right places and that we’re getting a lot of federal money is coming back to Alabama. Tuberville says President Trump has really helped the state of Alabama.

He said the president says they are moving Fannie Mae, the government home mortgage enterprise, to Alabama.. Tuberville says he picked Birmingham as a location because he couldn’t pick Montgomery because he believes the streets aren’t safe, and he said President Trump knows that. Tuberville says Montgomery needs to be straightened out and law enforcement must be supported if the city is to grow.

Chamber leaders say it’s important to hear from our Congressional delegation.

“There’s a Washington Brief series that the chamber does and it’s because those issues have to be brought down to the local level,” Chamber President and CEO Anna Buckalew said. “Those congressional delegation members take those issues back up to the hill in Washington. It’s such an important relationship. We have the best Alabama congressional delegation. Sen. Tuberville is amazing. Sen. Britt, Shomari Figures, all of our members in the delegation really, we go see them all when we’re up there.”

Tuberville chose not to seek re-election to the U.S. Senate, so his time in Washington will be coming to a close. He is the Republican nominee for governor. The election is November 3.
