Residents in Troy mobile home park dealing with sewage problems

 

PIKE COUNTY, Ala. (WAKA Action 8) –  Some residents at a mobile home park in Troy are experiencing what one resident calls nearly unlivable conditions.

Madalyn Kingsbury lives at Troy’s Hunter Mountain, a mobile home park off Highway 231. She said she first noticed something was wrong a few weeks ago.

“Since the 21st was when we first noticed that our plumbing wasn’t draining properly,” says Kingsbury. “We thought maybe we had a drain clog. My partner went out to investigate and discovered that we had a puddle of sewage under our house.”

Kingsbury said tissue paper, feces, and other sewage has been coming up from a manhole and near the steps of her home, as well as other mobile homes near her property.

It’s not just their homes that are dealing with the issue. The sewage is also going into a nearby water source.

“We have to juggle who can use water when and when we can flush the toilet. Only one of our toilets actually flushes the other one just doesn’t because it’s on the same end of the house as the sewage outlet,” says Kingsbury.

A formal complaint had been submitted to the Alabama Department of Environmental Management, but ADEM determined that the city of Troy is not responsible for the sewer issue as the sewer lines in question fall on private property.

Kingsbury says she’s reached out to the property manager, but hasn’t heard back.

“The property manager hasn’t gotten back to us. We haven’t received any official updates from Hunter’s Mountain, they have not sent anybody emails about this which is insane,” says Kingsbury.

All while repair trucks sit idle.

Action 8 News has reached out to Hunter’s Mountain Mobile Estate, who has declined comment.
