Fugitive from Arizona caught in Elmore County
ELMORE COUNTY, Ala. (WAKA) – A fugitive from Arizona has been captured in Elmore County.
The Alabama Department of Corrections says Deon Vaughns was taken into custody near the intersection of Highway 143 and Marion Spillway Road on Wednesday. That’s near the ADOC facilities and Speigner Lake in the town of Elmore.
Agents with the ADOC Law Enforcement Services Division and K-9 Division assisted the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force in arresting Vaughns.
Vaughns was wanted on an outstanding aggravated assault warrant issued in Mesa, Arizona, according to ADOC.
Following his arrest, Vaughns was taken to the Elmore County Detention Facility, where he is being held pending extradition to Mesa, Maricopa County, Arizona.
