Suspect dead in Birmingham officer-involved shooting

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WAKA) -Birmingham police say a suspect is dead in an officer-involved shooting near UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham.

It happened around 12:35 p.m. Thursday in the 2700 block of University Boulevard.

Police have not said what the initial complaint involved or released details about what happened between the officers and the suspect before the shooting.

A UAB Hospital System B-Alert issued to employees said the shooting happened outside of the facility. It went on to say the scene was secured but instructed people to avoid the North Tower area and Level A of the parking deck.
