Butler County Schools In Full Swing of New School Year

Butler County Schools returned to class Thursday August 6th and the first official week is underway. From Kindergarteners to seniors the excitement within Butler County Schools is palpable as each school within the system takes hold of the beginning of a new school year.

None more than Dr. Thelma Jackson who is starting a very new beginning as Principal at W.O. Palmer Elementary School with goals of a solid educational foundation for students starting at week one, “I believe academics begin as early as we can in pre K , she says, it’s important that we’re sending students to middle and high school ready to learn

The importance of a solid Elementary foundation is seen across the Butler County School system as McKenzie School’s previous annual achievement score of 94 is the highest within the county.

McKenzie School Principal Michael Collins, says, “We’ve shown tremendous academic growth over the years and we’re to the point where over 80% of our students are proficient. That was a big goal to get over that 80% mark.”

But all work and no play makes any school system dull and the Butler County School system is anything but dull and friendly competition with incentives for students and staff to work hard never hurts.
