North Alabama Gets Snow

In North Alabama, schools altered schedules and roads quickly turned to slush as that part of the state received a dusting of snow from a winter weather system.

Several school systems delayed opening or closed early Tuesday because of the threat of slippery roads, and photos on social media showed cars and lawns covered with snow.

State troopers said Interstate 65 was closed near the Tennessee state line because of wrecks.

The National Weather Service says as much as 2 inches of snow could accumulate in the higher elevations of northeast Alabama, and 1 inch of snow is likely across the wider Tennessee Valley.

Any travel problems could linger into Wednesday since temperatures are expected to rise only into the mid-30s in north Alabama, followed by overnight laws in the low 20s.
