ACTION 8 UPDATE: Police make arrest in death of Alabama State University student

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – Montgomery police have charged a man with murder in the death of an Alabama State University student.

Police have charged 22-year-old Jalil Bivens of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, in the death of 20-year-old Ava Walters.

Yesterday at 10:54AM, police were called to the 1600 block of Interstate Park Drive in reference to a deceased person. Upon arrival, officers found Walters’ body.

As Action 8 News has reported, ASU officials have released a statement, saying their thoughts and prayers are with Walters’ family and those who knew her.

According to court records, Bivens was Walters’ boyfriend. Police say there is probable cause that Bivens strangled Walters, causing her death.
