Hyundai Power Transformers makes major donation to Montgomery students
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – Hyundai Power Transformers has made a major donation to students at the Montgomery Preparatory Academy for Career Technologies magnet school.
Hyundai Power Transformers is providing 30 iPads, 500 notebook computers and a check for $5,000 to MPACT.
The school, which is part of Montgomery Public Schools, has 550 students. Those students get training in their chosen career path as part of their school day.
MPACT provides technical training for high-demand career fields, including HVAC and mechanical systems, health science, industrial maintenance and more. Company leaders at Hyundai Power Transformers were given a tour of MPACT, which is in the old JCPenney store space at the former Montgomery Mall and say they are impressed by what they saw.
“It is huge because we support all traditional schools here in Montgomery Public Schools, which means a donation here is a donation to all the schools in our district, our high schools, so it’s a great opportunity. We’re excited just to see how committed our partners are to MPACT,” school principal Ken Britford told Action 8 News.
“MPACT provides students of MPS with skills that we are looking forward to coming to our workforce, and so this partnership that we have with them and the donation that we are doing is actually a donation that we are investing in the students at MPS to come into the workforce once they finish school,” Matthew Smith of Hyundai Power Transformers said.
Students at MPACT can earn industry-recognized certifications and dual-enrollment college credits.
